The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, on Monday, revealed plans to manufacture locally made transformers as part of efforts to reduce power prices, address deficits in power supply, and resolve the country’s epileptic power supply.
This was disclosed by the President of the Technical Staff Association of NASENI, Oluwaseyi Ogungbenro, during a press conference held after a joint meeting between the staff unions at the headquarters of the agency in Abuja.
Oluwaseyi while revealing that over a hundred persons have been sent to undergo technical and technology transfer training in China, stated that the agency has taken on the challenge of rectifying the country’s epileptic power issues.
He also assured that the move will help to consolidate various interventions through NASENI such as agriculture, power, youth empowerment, aviation, security, and transportation.
He said, “The agency has sent more than a hundred persons to China for training and technology transfer and they are currently at the last stage of the process and very soon, we are going to start production of transformers. All pending issues on the power supply will be defeated when the company starts operation and the capacity of our power holding companies will be greatly improved.
“Recently, we witnessed the block laying for solar cell production in Nigeria, which is the first in Africa. With that project, the energy problem will be solved and solar panels will become cheaper in the market, thus improving exports and helping our economy.”
Speaking further, the unions called for an immediate release of the agency’s approved allocation for 2022, adding that only eight percent of its approved budget has been released so far despite presidential approval.
They, therefore, appealed to relevant authorities to ensure the release of the remaining funding without further delay because NASENI remains the economic and technological solution for the myriad of problems confronting this great nation.
“It will interest you to know NASENI has only been able to access eight percent of the funds approved by the National Assembly and signed by the President.
“If NASENI has been able to do so much in one year with 8%, one can only imagine what NASENI will achieve if granted access to 100% of its approved funding.”
“We therefore graciously and firmly appeal to relevant authorities: The Honorable Minister of Finance Budget and National Planning, Federal Inland Revenue, Nigerian Governors Forum,, and National Economic Council to ensure the release of the remaining funding without further delay because NASENI remains the economic and technological solution for a myriad of problems confronting this great nation.”
The workers applauded the decision by the federal government to extend by two years the tenure of the Executive Vice Chairman, Mohammed Haruna.
They contended that the further years granted to the vice chairman, will help to ensure Nigeria attains self-sufficiency in food security, stand out in homegrown technology in weapon production, develop first ever aircraft in West Africa, develop capacity for solar cell production, finish the production line for homegrown transformer production and ensure agricultural and industrial tools manufacturing for food safety and industrial revolution.
