Male suspect apprehended for sexually assaulting a 9-month-old infant in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested his 27-year-old man from the Iyora Badia Railway on suspicion of molesting a 9-month-old baby.

Command spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest to the Nigerian News Agency in Lagos on Wednesday.

Hundeyin said the incident was reported to police around 10pm on Monday by a person concerned.

The suspect went to an apartment, where the baby's mother put the baby to sleep on the floor and immediately bought something off the premises, he said.

"The suspect allegedly had sex with a young baby and immediately fled the scene. "The baby's 16-year-old mother came to the ward with the baby and was given a medical form so she could take the child to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

"However, at approximately 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, the suspect was smoked from a hiding place by detectives from Iyola's Badia Division."

A spokesman said the applicant and the suspect made statements, adding that the suspect confessed to the crime during questioning.

Hundeyin said the crime scene was filmed when police visited and blood-stained trousers were seized as exhibits.

He said the case files and suspects will be forwarded to the state command's gender division.
