The NYPD was notified at approximately 11:14 AM local time after getting a 911 call from an apartment in Manhattan's Chelsea area. They added that the woman suffered minor injuries to her head and neck and was rushed to the hospital.

An NYPD spokesperson informed the Associated Press news agency that Mr. Majors was released from custody by Saturday evening.

In a statement acquired by the BBC, Mr. Majors' counsel stated that the actor was "entirely innocent" and suggested that the actor was the victim of the dispute involving a woman he knew.

Priya Chaudhry stated, "We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently. This evidence includes video footage from the vehicle where this episode took place, witness testimony from the driver and others who both saw and heard the episode and most importantly, two written statements from the woman recanting these allegations. All the evidence proves that Mr. Majors is entirely innocent and did not assault her whatsoever."

Mr. Majors' detention comes just a few weeks after he presented an award at the Oscars. His career took off after his performance in The Last Black Man in San Francisco in 2019, followed by his roles in Netflix's The Harder They Fall and Marvel Comics' Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. In Creed III, a boxing movie that premiered earlier this month, Mr. Majors plays Jordan's adversary.
